Why Pleasantdale Chateau Is One of the Most Stunning Wedding Venues to Film in NJ

There are wedding venues, and then there is Pleasantdale Chateau.

Nestled in West Orange, New Jersey, this French Normandy-style estate sits on 40 acres of landscaped gardens, serene woodlands, and manicured grounds — and from a videographer's perspective, it is genuinely unlike anywhere else I film in the entire New York metro area. The long, winding scenic drive through the property sets the tone the moment your guests arrive, with formal gardens, ponds, walking bridges, and charming gazebos framing everything that follows.

As a wedding videographer based in Jersey City serving couples throughout Northern New Jersey and New York City, Pleasantdale Chateau is one of those venues where I arrive early, not because I have to — but because I want to. Here's why it's such a dream to film, and what couples should know before booking their video team.

A Venue That Was Built for the Camera

Most venues have one or two great photo spots. Pleasantdale Chateau has them around every corner — literally. The entry hall alone features a 17th-century tile floor from Seville, Spain, ornate limestone columns, and a lavish crystal chandelier. That's just the foyer.

For a wedding filmmaker, this kind of variety is everything. A great wedding film isn't just a highlight reel of the ceremony and first dance — it's a visual story of the whole day, woven together through details, architecture, light, and landscape. Pleasantdale gives you all of that in abundance.

The Ceremony Spaces Are Spectacular

Pleasantdale Chateau offers two breathtaking ceremony locations. The Arboretum Conservatory is a grand indoor space with soaring timber beams, hand-crafted stone flooring, and a skylight that fills the room with natural light. For outdoor ceremonies, couples can exchange vows by the pond — a tranquil, romantic setting with water views under the open sky.

Both spaces film beautifully, but for different reasons. The Arboretum is all about texture and grandeur — those timber beams catch light in a way that feels almost cinematic without any effort. The pond ceremony is about mood and openness; wide establishing shots of the ceremony against that landscape are the kind of footage that makes a wedding film feel truly special.

The Grand Ballroom Is in a Class of Its Own

The Grand Wedding Hall at Pleasantdale Chateau is the only rotunda of its kind — an architectural marvel with an intricate pattern of concealed wood timbers forming a high vaulted ceiling and central glass dome. Refined panels of woven fabric, ornate columns, and intricate moldings complete a room that creates a sense of awe the moment guests walk in.

For the reception film, this room is a gift. The central dome acts as a natural light source that fills the space evenly, which means speeches, first dances, and parent dances all look stunning on camera without heavy reliance on artificial lighting.

The Juliet balcony overlooking the Grand Ballroom also gives the bride a breathtaking moment — and for video, that elevated angle of the grand entrance is one of the most dramatic shots of the entire day.

A Few Notes for Couples Booking Pleasantdale Chateau

Book your videographer as early as your venue. Pleasantdale Chateau has been recognized by TIME/Money Magazine as one of the top nine wedding venues in the entire United States — which means it books up fast, and so do the best vendors who know it well. If you've signed your venue contract, don't wait on video.

Think about drone footage. The estate even features a private heliport on the property, which tells you something about the scale and grandeur of the grounds. Aerial footage of the Pleasantdale estate — the formal gardens, the tree-lined drive, the full scope of the property from above — is absolutely stunning. As an FAA-certified drone operator, I'd always recommend discussing aerial coverage for a venue like this.

Allow time for grounds footage. With 40 acres and so many distinct spaces, it's worth building a bit of buffer into your timeline so your video team can capture the estate itself — not just the moments inside it. That establishing footage is what gives a wedding film its sense of place and makes it feel specific to your day at this venue.
